parter. Før pandemien ble møter i stor grad gjennomført samlokalisert, mens under
pandemien måtte en finne nye løsninger for å arbeide sammen. For å undersøke
over internett.
digital samhandling i fremtiden.
For å illustrere hvordan
modeller:
dc.description.abstract | The Covid-19-pandemic forced Norwegian businesses into a shift from physical to digital
collaboration, which led to a rapid transition to digital meetings. Before, meetings between
customers and IT-suppliers were largely co-located, while during the pandemic new
solutions had to be found. To research the new adjustments and the long-term effects of
the change in interaction methods, this study aims to uncover the following research
questions:
1. How did the Covid-19-pandemic affect customer and IT-supplier interaction?
2. How do customers and IT-suppliers wish to collaborate after the pandemic?
This research project is based on qualitative and quantitative data from literature,
interviews with IT-suppliers, and interviews and a survey completed by customers. The
data consists of ten informants from six different businesses, and a survey with 50
respondents. The project is limited to Norwegian suppliers of IT-products and services, as
well as customers with supplier contact. The study aims to contribute to research in digital
collaboration and computer supported cooperative work (CSCW), and covers topics such
as digital meetings, digital maturity, knowledge sharing and relations between two
external parties who are mutually dependent.
Results show that the pandemic has led to the following changes in interactions between
customers and IT-suppliers: All digital meeting activities and collaboration, less visibility,
social translucence, and awareness, more frequent, structured, and efficient meetings,
less need for coordination, better autonomy, fewer business travels, and less informal
communication and focus on relationship building activities.
Relationships between customers and IT suppliers changed during the pandemic, and the
parties found it more challenging to interact, and to build and maintain relationships
remotely. How the parties handled the transition to digital collaboration was determined
by their digital maturity, motivation for necessary changes, digital opportunities,
technological skills, as well as the company’s management and strategy. The results show
a combination of perceived advantages and disadvantages for both parties. Both wish to
continue with digital collaboration in the future, and findings show that depending on the
nature of a meeting, a combination of physical and digital meetings will be appropriate in
the future. Based on the results, the following models were created to illustrate how a
lasting increase in digital collaboration can be optimized:
- Preference for digital or physical meetings (based on the meeting’s intention)
- Matrix for collaboration between the parties (relations and common ground)
- KARISMA-model for best practice in digital meetings
This study’s results indicate that despite of the challenges regarding digital collaboration,
successful digital meetings are a possibility. This means that customers and IT-suppliers
need to come to an agreement about how collaboration can be adapted to their needs.
