The purpose of this thesis has been to develop a new ski binding system for the Norwegian Armed Forces in collaboration with Rottefella AS, which offers enhanced security and usability.
The development is based on Bryan Lawson's five stages of product development and creative work. The work was conducted with custom modifications, hence these five bases; seek insight, preparation, incubation period, further development and verification. An important element from the start has been to be able to carry out a separate design and development process, from idea to finished solution.
The concept of the solution is based on the front and rear parts. Together, these parts are intended to represent a binding system with three main functions; free heel in flat terrain, free heel with a heel lifter uphill and locked heel downhill. Through thorough and structured work, the project made thoughtful choices and decisions, which have affected the final solution.
