Abstract
interkulturell pedagogikk i estetisk perspektiv oppstår.

to the creation of a theoretical foundation on how intercultural pedagogy can be understood
and defined from an aesthetic perspective. The thesis started from a desire to create reflection
about how aesthetics can be understood and combined with intercultural perspectives.
The master thesis is a literaturestudy where I approach the literature through a creative
reflexive methodology. The creative-reflexive approach “releases” the content within the
literature and allows me to actively dig into the literature. Through this creative-reflexive
approach I have chosen texts of six scholars that are central to this study. Within intercultural
pedagogic I have chosen texts by Pirjo Lahdenperä, Hanna Arendt and James A. Banks.
Within aesthetics I have chosen texts by John Dewey, Nelson Goodman and Jerome Stolnitz.
Creative reflection has also made it possible to dig deeper in to the literature through a
philosophical content analysis, through which I define different themes that is arguably
relevant for teaching and learning framed by intercultural pedagogy. These themes, that I have
defined as relevant for teaching and learning through the analysis, are discussed as theoretical
foundation for how intercultural pedagogic can be understood and defined through an
aesthetic perspective. The main conclusions in this study, is how experience is the connection
between intercultural pedagogy and aesthetics, and how this fosters critical reflection. This
again can have an impact on the interaction between society and the individual which leads
me to argue for the necessity for an intercultural pedagogic in an aesthetic perspective. Based
on these conclusions, the study reflects upon the importance of a strong theoretical foundation
and the need for a theory of teaching and learning that reflects the multicultural society that
we live in today.
