dc.description.abstract | BACKGROUND: Fall related research is a major field of research, and different solutions emerge rapidly. Many of them are technical and focus on mobile technology. To be able to develop high-level applications of good quality rapidly, well-defined and well-structured back-end platforms are crucial elements. There exists a gap in a well-defined platform that provides back-end data-storage functionality, Such a platform will help developers to focus on the front-end; making it easier to develop high-level applications quicker and of higher quality. OBJECTIVE: The major objective of this study is to develop a data-storage platform, called NoFall, to ease the development process of fall preventative high-level applications. This will decrease required development time and enable development teams to focus more on functionality and user interface. NoFall will be developed for Android devices. RESEARCH METHOD: First, this thesis investigates the current research in fall detection and prevention. Second, State-of-the-Art solutions are examined and discussed. Finally, requirement specifications are formed based on the problem elaboration and usage scenarios. RESULTS: The resulting platform has shown, through the development of test applications, that this is a step in the right direction for the increased quality of high-level applications targeting fall prevention. Due to the fact that the result is a proof of concept, some important future improvements are identified, such as improvement of the database, making the platform easier to use - and supporting more usage scenarios. | |
