Sammendrag
The goal of this thesis is to investigate how the Ministry of Food utilized its newspaper advertisement column 'Food Fact' to influence housewives during WW2. The column was a way for the MoF to assist women in overcoming wartime cooking challenges by providing recipes, tips, and information about the rationing system as it progressed. This thesis is a rhetorical analysis of 175 'Food Fact' notices published in The Times between July 29, 1940, until November 8, 1943. Through exploring the rhetoric used by the Ministry of Food, the overall aim of the study is to investigate how government-sponsored propaganda provides insight into wider topics such as gender, national identity, and war.
