dc.description.abstract | The aim of this master's project was originally to develop a dissolution test for whole, split, and crushed theophylline extended-release tablets in USP 4 apparatus (flow through cell) under simulated gastrointestinal conditions and associated methods for HPLC analysis of the samples. The background for the development of the method was the desire to obtain more knowledge about how crushing and splitting solid oral dosage forms with modified release can affect the dissolution profile of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). Significant challenges arose during the work on this project, and what this master's thesis describes is an initial method development. The project nevertheless has value in that it highlights several of the challenges in the development of both these methods. Several of the challenges need to be investigated further to optimize the further method development work in this research project.
