This literature review seeks to answer the question: How to create meaning through depicting and lexical signs. Language as a phenomenon will be considered as a key to making meaning. To answer the question I will look into sing language linguistics through connecting the sign types lexical and depicting signs to the semiotic strategies, and how you can create meaning through the strategies. I’m also comparing the sign types and the different functions with examples in the vocal language to show similarities in ways of conveying, even though there are differences in the channels of production and perception. Its clear that both lexical and depicting signs has a lot of different functions they use to create meaning. The scanning of literature also looks at how these sign types combined can create an even more complex meaning.
