The topic of our bachelor thesis is about the hybrid work environment, which has been referred toas “the new normal” ever since the COVID-19 pandemic ended. In this case study onHunton, we have chosen to use a qualitative methodology. Throughout eight in-depthinterviews, involving four participants, we have gained insight on how the selected factorsmotivation and communication are affected in a company that utilizes a hybrid solution.
The theoretical foundation of our thesis is based upon well-established theories involvingmotivation and communication, we have also included recent studies done that relates toremote work and the hybrid workplace, which will contribute to shed light on our researchquestion. Furthermore, the findings from the interviews are discussed in relation to relevant theory.
The findings indicates that the hybrid solution in itself is highly motivating, but there arealso barriers associated with working from home that needs to be carefully considered. Inour discussion chapter it is argued that the increased sense of autonomy is the fundamentalfactor for enhancing motivation, and that this outweighs the minor compromises in socialbelonging. There are also challenges that occur when communicating in a hybrid workenvironment, where we are highlighting that not all information reaches those workingfrom home, additionally misinterpreting the messages through written communicationchannels. This will impact the effectiveness of communication.
