dc.description.abstract | The topic of our bachelor thesis is about the hybrid work environment, which has been referred to
as “the new normal” ever since the COVID-19 pandemic ended. In this case study on
Hunton, we have chosen to use a qualitative methodology. Throughout eight in-depth
interviews, involving four participants, we have gained insight on how the selected factors
motivation and communication are affected in a company that utilizes a hybrid solution.
The theoretical foundation of our thesis is based upon well-established theories involving
motivation and communication, we have also included recent studies done that relates to
remote work and the hybrid workplace, which will contribute to shed light on our research
question. Furthermore, the findings from the interviews are discussed in relation to relevant theory.
The findings indicates that the hybrid solution in itself is highly motivating, but there are
also barriers associated with working from home that needs to be carefully considered. In
our discussion chapter it is argued that the increased sense of autonomy is the fundamental
factor for enhancing motivation, and that this outweighs the minor compromises in social
belonging. There are also challenges that occur when communicating in a hybrid work
environment, where we are highlighting that not all information reaches those working
from home, additionally misinterpreting the messages through written communication
channels. This will impact the effectiveness of communication.
