Abstract
This thesis examins the issue: How do the hope, the awareness and the meaning of life contribue to making "Emigrantene" intertextual and metatextual to "The Myth of Sisyphus"? The assignement deals with the absurdity of human action, the senseless and the hopeless, and how the intertextual link to "The Myth of Sisyphos" contribuets with debth to "Emigrantene". This debth is revealed by the fact that "The Myth of Sisyphos" projects meaning to "Emigrantene", and the other way around. Dag Solstad has a personal relationship with "The Myth of Sisyphos", but this relationship does not play a significant role in the interpretation due to the theory about the death of the author. The metatextual aspect that emerges in "Emigrantene" is also commenting on the theme of the meaning of life as it makes it clear that life is also constructed in the same way as fiction.
