The data wascollected from previous participants in their learning and coping program “From sick leaveto long-term healthy”. This study’s purpose was to explore employers’ and employees’experiences with a successful return or continuation in work. Two focus groups and sixsemi-structured individual interviews were conducted with a total of 11 informants. Thedata was analyzed using Kvale & Brinkmann’s five analysis steps, inspired of Giorgi’sphenomenological analysis. Three main themes were identified: the need for expertassistance, awareness and confirmation, and solutions in the workplace. The main findings of this study are based on the employees’ and employers’ experienceswith individual adaptations and solutions in the work environment. The individual solutionsinvolved accommodating the workplace, in terms of work tasks, working hours and aids. For some of the informants, the solution involved recognition and good relationships at theworkplace, with both the manager and colleagues. Good communication and follow-upbetween the manager and employee were considered as an important part of workparticipation. Another lasting solution was also reduced work percentage due to age andhealth reasons. The study found that including the employer in Langtidsfrisk was useful for getting inputon what the workplace had to offer. In addition, the employer and employee became moreaware of each other’s roles, as well as their own resources and limitations. This was crucialfor some of the informant for a successful return or continuation in work.
