This bachelor's thesis demonstrates Julia Kristeva's concept of the abject in three short-stories by Edgar Allan Poe: The Masque of the Red Death, The Fall of the House of Usher, and William Wilson. It first defines the term, and then performs three separate analysis-chapters focused on close reading, which elucidate Poe's works using the established definition of the abject as foundation.
