"The hideous dropping off of the veil" - Instances of abjection in three short-stories by Edgar Allan Poe
Abstract
Denne bacheloroppgaven demonstrerer Julia Kristeva's konsept om det abjekte i tre korthistorier av Edgar Allan Poe: The Masque of the Red Death, The Fall of the House of Usher, og William Wilson. Den definerer først begrepet, for så å gå inn i tre separate analysekapitler sentrert rundt nærlesning, som belyser Poe's verk med den etablerte definisjonen av det abjekte som fundament. This bachelor's thesis demonstrates Julia Kristeva's concept of the abject in three short-stories by Edgar Allan Poe: The Masque of the Red Death, The Fall of the House of Usher, and William Wilson. It first defines the term, and then performs three separate analysis-chapters focused on close reading, which elucidate Poe's works using the established definition of the abject as foundation.
