The subject of this study is racism in school, with a particular focus on antiracist education. The objective was to evaluate a selected actor's contribution to antiracist pedagogy. Thiswas conducted by interviewing a project leader in Dembra, a program for professionaldevelopment among teachers, school staff and administrators who seek to strengthen theschools' antiracist and antisemitic work. The study also incorporates material fromDembra's web-based repository to provide examples of teaching guides and highlight theprogram's understanding of racism.
To define this topic and research project, I sought to answer this thesis statement: "Whatunderstanding serves as the basis of Dembra's work with antiracist education, and whatconditions exist for their contribution?" The study adopts a qualitative approach, and I havesought to map an understanding of the thesis statement through structured interviewswith Dembra, material from its website, and discussions about the program's contributionto antiracist education as a political initiative against racism. The interviews provide usefulinsights on how Dembra's program serves as a guide for various schools, and theirprofessional input on racism is presented well on its website.
The thesis statement about Dembra was analyzed through the use of Bacchi's (2009)analytic framework. This theory seeks to identify the link between problem and solution, and what this understanding actually, and what this understanding actually represents.Antiracist education is viewed as preventionactually represents. Antiracist education isconsidered as prevention actually represents. Antiracist education is viewed aspressentialevention against racism, but it is important to critically consider how we conductantiracist pedagogy to prevent racism.
