Abstract

Denne bacheloroppgaven omhandler verket Orchidee Violet av Magdalena Abakanowicz, som er eid av Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum. Oppgaven presenterer kort kunstindustrimuseet sin historie og museet selv. Det gjøres en visuell analyse av verket, og kunstneren introduseres gjennom biografisk metode. Det gjøres kort rede for feministisk teori, og ideologiens betydning for kunstscenen på 60- og 70-tallet. Judy Chicago trekkes frem som et eksempel på en viktig kunstner fra denne perioden. Det foretas en komparativ analyse med Hannah Ryggens billedvev Mors Hjerte. Før det avslutningsvis blir gjort rede for disse verkenes relevans i lys av dagsaktuelle hendelser.

This bachelor's thesis deals with Magdalena Abakanowicz artwork Orchidee Violet, which is owned by Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum. The thesis briefly presents the history of the Art Industry Museum and the museum itself. A visual analysis of the work is carried out, and the artist is introduced through a biographical method. Feminist theory, and the importance of this ideology for the art scene in the 60s and 70s is briefly explained. Judy Chicago is highlighted as an example of an important artist from this period. Orchidee Violet is compared to Hannah Ryggen's tapestry Mother's Heart, and both artworks are seen in the light of current events.
