Denne avhandlingen i allmenn litteraturvitenskap, Båten, fiske, fyret, naustet, stranden. Fem topos fra den norske kystromanen, undersøker og analyserer tittelens fem topoi som konstanter i romanfremstillinger av norskekysten; og fordi de er konstanter, merkes de også av de til enhver tids sosiale, kulturelle, ideologiske og materielle forutsetninger. Det gjør dem velegnet for å identifisere en rekke av de endringer som har preget norskekysten i perioden 1870–2018, med vekt på tiden etter 1945. Omfanget bidrar til at avhandlingen ikke bare er litteraturvitenskapelig, men også en kulturhistorie.
Avhandlingen har to deler. Del I gir et bakteppe for historiske endringer som har foregått langs kyst-Norge siden 1945, drøfter hva en kyst er og hva som kan regnes for ‘kystlitteratur’. Del II er viet de fem topoi. Her utgjør seks norske samtidsromaner avhandlingens analytiske omdreiningspunkt, samtidig som det trekkes linjer tilbake til kystromanens tidligste fase på 1870-tallet. Slik viser avhandlingen at den norske kysten er fremstilt med konstanter som stadig endres, men også bibeholder bestemte trekk.

Fem topos fra den norske kystromanen er tenkt som et bidrag til å utvide den sfæren som har forstått og regulert kystkulturen, og med det bedre forstå konteksten det er relevant å se forestillingene om ‘kyst’ og ‘kystkultur’ innenfor. Slik har avhandlingen ambisjon om å synliggjøre nye spørsmål og problemstillinger knyttet til videre forvaltning og forståelse av den norske kysten og livene ved den.
Summary
This dissertation in comparative literature, The boat, fishing, the lighthouse, the boat house, the beach. Five topos from the Norwegian coastal novel, examines and analyzes the title’s five topoi as constants in novelistic representations of the Norwegian Coast; and being constants, the topoi are marked by a given time’s social, cultural, ideological, and material premises. That makes them well-suited for identifying several of those changes that have characterized the Norwegian coast within the timeframe of 1870–2018, where the period after 1945 are emphasized. The analytic breadth makes the dissertation a study of literature that has a wider cultural-historical approach.
The dissertation is divided in two main parts. Part I serves as a backdrop for historical changes related to the Norwegian coast since 1945, it delivers a discussion of what a coast is, in addition to examine more closely what ‘coastal literature’ can be. Part II consists of chapters devoted to the five topoi, where six contemporary novels constitute the analytical focus, and at the same time looks back to the coastal novel’s early phase in the 1870s. In this way of analyzing the coast, the dissertation shows that the coast is portrayed with a set of constants that ever changes, and at the same time maintains certain features.

Five topos from the Norwegian coastal novel, is meant to be a contribution for widening the sphere that has understood and regulated the coastal culture , and with that better understand the context that frames conceptions such as ‘coast’ and ‘coastal culture’. By that, the dissertation has ambitions to problematize and pave way for new questions with regards to further managing and understanding of the Norwegian coast and the lives that are lived by it. | en_US |
