Grenseland for virkemidler i reklame.
Abstract
This thesis explores the ethical boundaries of the use of rhetorical means in advertising by conducting a rhetorical analysis of Norsk Vind´s controversial advertising campaign "Vindkraft nå". The rhetorical analysis is done based on Jens E. Kjeldsen's rhetorical image analysis template. Based on the findings of this analysis, I discuss the campaign in light of rules of good marketing practice, with a particular focus on requirements of truthfulness, corporate social responsibility and the protection of children. The thesis shows that the campaign's strong logical reasoning increases Norsk Vind´s credibility as a sender. It also forms the basis for the message's strong emotional appeal. The thesis concludes that the use of rhetorical tools in the campaign lies in the borderland of what is good marketing practice but can be justified in light of the fact that the climate crisis is a serious challenge, which legitimizes the use of strong means.
