Hvordan øke bruken av eksisterende digitale løsninger?

Abstract

Det digitale skiftet utfordrer dagens samarbeidsmodeller, gjennomføringsmodeller og forretningsmodeller i bygge-, anleggs-, og eiendomsnæringen. Nye digitale verktøy og teknologier skal effektivisere, muliggjøre sømløs informasjonsflyt og forbedre samhandlingen mellom aktørene i bransjen. Likevel påpekes det gang etter gang at det mangler løsninger som gagner felleskapet. Det sies at med økende grad av digitalisering og industrialisering vil næringen måtte tilpasse seg nye verktøy og nye måter å skape verdi på. Hva med løsningene som allerede eksisterer?

Denne masteroppgaven har som mål å være utforskende og kritisk spørrende. Den har innhentet perspektiver fra hovedaktører i byggeprosjekter og programvareleverandørene som leverer digitale løsninger til byggeprosjekter. Hensikten er å utforske en digital arbeidsplattform for samhandling for industrialisering og automatisering i byggeprosjekter.

Det har blitt gjennomført syv semistrukturerte intervjuer blant sentrale aktører i byggeprosjekter og programvareleverandører. I forbindelse med resultater og funn i intervju er det utført komplementerende litteratursøk. I tillegg har forfatteren lagt vekt på å ha god bransjekontakt.

Paradoksalt avdekker intervjuene at hovedaktørene ønsker seg mange av de løsningene som programvareleverandører sier de allerede har utviklet. Det interessante ved dette er den lave utnyttelsen av de digitale verktøyene som allerede eksisterer, noe som kan tyde på manglende kommunikasjon mellom de to sektorene.

Det mangler fortsatt en praksis for bruk av en omforent digital arbeidsplattform for samhandling. Det er en helhetlig mangelfull kobling mellom menneske, teknologi og prosess som hindrer full utnyttelse av digitale verktøy og teknologi. Bruk og utvikling av digitale verktøy er krevende prosesser som påvirker menneske både kulturelt og sosialt. Ved å fokusere på automatisering i prosjekter vil man kunne bane vei for standardisering og digitalisering i næringen.

The digital transformation is creating collaboration and implementation model challenges for key players in today’s architecture, engineering, and construction industry (AEC). There are new digital tools and technologies that are meant to enable streamlined seamless information flow and improve the collaboration between industry stakeholders. However, time after time, the lack of digital solutions to serve the whole industry is pointed to as a problem. With the increase of digitalization and industrialization, the AEC sector will have to adopt new tools and methods to deliver increased value to its customer. What about the existing solutions?

The overall goal of this Master’s thesis is to explore and critically question this phenomenon. This thesis has gathered perspectives from primary stakeholders in construction projects, as well as the software suppliers who deliver supporting digital tools. The key objective is to explore a digital work platform to allow effective collaboration for industrialization and automation in construction projects.

Seven semi-structured interviews were conducted with major construction companies and software suppliers. The results and findings from these interviews were supplemented with additional literature research. In addition, the author has emphasized having good industry contact.

Paradoxically, the interviews uncovered that the AEC industry are looking for many of the solutions that software suppliers say they have already developed. This surprisingly low industry awareness and use of already existing digital tools is very interesting and points to a lack of effective communication and collaboration between these two business sectors.

In sum, an agreed practice for the use of digital work platforms for cooperation is still missing. The link between people, process and technology is deficient and underutilized which results in suboptimization of its full potential of these digital tools and technologies. The use and development of digital tools are demanding processes which influence people both culturally and socially. Increased focus of automation tools and processes in construction projects will unlock the problem of digitalization.
