Abstract
 
 
The intent of this bachelor thesis was to document how much of an impact the transition to Dalux, a digital tool for quality assurance, has had on Veidekke’s quality assurance, specifically the resource usage and the documentation quality. The following statement makes up the basis of this thesis:

To what extent has Dalux affected the quality assurance in Veidekke’s production?

The bachelor thesis is written for, and in collaboration with Veidekke Bygg, district Bergen. The thesis statement has primarily been investigated by conducting a survey and six interviews answered by their craftsmen and engineers, and by comparing the results to existing literature and research on the subject. The literature includes material on Dalux as a working tool, a presentation of quality and quality assurance, an introduction to different Lean-principles within management, and other relevant sources.

The fact that craftsmen and engineers have access to blueprints and technical drawings, checklists, discrepancy processing and other important information on their phones and tablets through Dalux, has proven to be a highly resource-saving measure. It transfers the work load from the production management on to the craftsmen and other parties in the project, and it simultaneously secures the flow of information and increases the documentation quality considerably.

The findings have shown that there is a broad consensus that Dalux is time saving both for the craftsmen and the engineers, but that the production management office experienced the biggest difference. However, the study has shown that the main advantage with Dalux as a QA-tool is the increased quality of the QA-documentation. The documentation has shown to be more complete as a result of checklists and discrepancy processing being more accessible on the construction site, and that everything is stored in searchable, electronic archives. It has become easier for craftsmen to work together with joint checklists that multiple parties can fill in on separate devices.

All in all, the study has shown that Dalux has had a highly positive impact on Veidekke’s quality assurance, although there is room for improvement in some aspects. The findings primarily point to a lack of training with the software, a wish for notifications when technical drawings are updated and an improved user-interface within the app.
