Metoder for datainnsamlingen
hovedområder i norskfaget.
dc.description.abstract | This master thesis is a qualitative case study, and interpretation and participatory observation
are the main research methods. I am researching 9th graders development of understanding in
interpretation of Påfugl. It is primarily two theoretical perspectives that apply. Theories about
interpretation and understanding unite within Hermeneutics, and this thesis is based on
Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics. The primary activity is literary conversations, and the
instruction design is based on the text as it comes to life through the students reading. The
readers participation to the texts meaning is known as Reception Theory, and the thesis is
based on Langer’s theories about envisionment building.
The themes of the literary conversations can give information about the student’s
understandings of the text and is highlighted in five categories; 22nd of July, otherness,
ambivalence related to culture and identity, racism, and multiculturalism. An insight into Påfugl
can be a rich starting point for working with several main areas in the Norwegian subject, a
central subject for cultural understanding. This thesis seeks to describe culture as something
mobile and fluid, and cultural hybridity is highlighted as a theoretical perspective. Literature
and culture are strongly linked, and literature can give the students different glasses to view the
world, like culture also can influence how they meet literature.
Based on this study I would argue that reading Påfugl can be a contribution to the broad
spectrum of texts the students will meet in their education. An insight into Påfugl can also be a
starting point for talking about the terror attacks in Oslo and at Utøya the 22nd of July in 2011.
