Science fiction (sf) anerkjent som en akademisk sjanger har vært et mål for Darko Suvin siden han publisert sitt verk Metamorphoses of Science Fiction, On the poetics and History of Science Fiction (1979), I denne oppgaven tar jeg utgangspunkt i hans teori, samt andre teorier, og foretar en komparativ analyse for å kunne se nærmere på sf som sjanger og det samfunnskritiske potensialet som ligger i den. Romanene jeg analyserer er SlaughterhouseFive (1969) av Kurt Vonnegut, The Einstein Intersection (1967) av Samuel R. Delany og The Left Hand of Darkness (1969) av Ursula K. Le Guin. -
To have science fiction (SF) acknowledged as an academic genre has been Darko Suvin´s motivation since publishing his work Metamorphoses of Science Fiction, On the poetics and History of Science Fiction (1979). In this thesis I base myself in his theory, amongst others, as I conduct a comparative analysis to explore SF as a genre and the potential for critical thinking embedded in it. The novels I am analyzing are Slaughterhouse-Five (1969) by Kurt Vonnegut, The Einstein Intersection (1967) by Samuel R. Delany og The Left Hand of Darkness (1969) by Ursula K. Le Guin.
