Abstract
Additive manufacturing has in the recent years become more accessible, and the areas of potential use have expanded. This thesis looks into the effect on two marine grade metals, Inconel 625 and Super Duplex stainless steel, deposited using Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM). The approach is to first introduce the essential aspects of WAAM and acquire the necessary background knowledge, before starting the deposition using the WAAM method. The deposited materials will be mechanically tested and microstructural examined.

The experimental results indicate that both Inconel 625 and SDSS is possible to deposit using WAAM, but they are affected by the variation in heat input and interpass temperature. The non-desirable sigma phase was precipitated in the high interpass temperature SDSS, which was affecting the impact toughness of the material. Interdendritic precipitations, assumed to be the laves phase, was found in the inter-layer heat affected zones of the Inconel 625, but further microscopy examinations are needed to say the exact content.
