En litteraturstudie om palliativ pleie hos kreftpasienter, fra et pasientperspektiv.

Abstract

Tittel: «Hvordan opplever kreftpasienten at livskvaliteten blir ivaretatt i den palliative fasen i sykehuset?»

Bakgrunn: En pasient som er i en palliativ fase er preget av både fysiske, psykiske, åndelige og sosiale forhold, og har spesielle behov og ønsker. Dette er noe som er viktig å skape mer fokus rundt, slik at sykepleiere kan bidra til at disse pasientene får det best mulig i den siste fasen av livet.

Hensikt: Å belyse hva kreftpasienter i den palliative fasen ønsker ut av behandlingen, og hvilke faktorer de anser som viktige.

Metode: Systematisk litteraturstudie av 8 kvalitative forskningsartikler.

Resultat: Kreftpasienter i den palliative fasen opplever at kommunikasjonen mellom en selv og sykepleier ikke er tilstrekkelig nok, som da fører til både fysisk og psykisk svekkelse. De åndelige behovene er noe de spesielt føler de ikke får dekt, hvor helsepersonell vegrer seg fra å gå inn i diskusjoner som omhandler dette.

Konklusjon: Sykepleiere må ha mer fokus på og forståelse for pasientens behov for fysisk, psykisk og sosial ivaretakelse. For å fremme pasientens livskvalitet er kommunikasjon, medbestemmelse, åndelige behov og lindring sentrale elementer.

Title: How do cancer patients experience their quality of life taken care of in the palliative phase at the hospital

Background: A patient who is in a palliative phase is characterized by physical, mental, spiritual and social conditions, and have specific needs and wants. It is very important to create more focus around this, so that nurses can help ensure that these patients receive the best possible nursing in the final stage of life.

Aim: The aim of this study was to explore what cancer patients in the palliative phase want to focus on in the end of their life, and what factors they consider important.

Method: Systematic litterature review of 8 qualitative research articles.

Results: Cancer patients in the palliative phase experience that communication between themselves and the nurses are not sufficient enough, and that leads to both physical and mental impairment. The spiritual needs is something they particularly feel they do not get covered, where health professionals are reluctant from going into discussions related to this.

Conclusion: Nurses must have more focus on, and understanding of patients' needs for physical, mental and social fulfillment. Communication, participation, spiritual needs and relief of symptoms are key-elements to support patients' quality of life.
