Over the recent years the interest for wireless sensor networks and Internet of Things (IoT) has grown significantly. As a consequence of this, there is a need for solutions to conserve restricted resources such as energy and network usage. This thesis presents a look into possible solutions to meet the new demands. A complete test platform is presented and established. A wireless sensor network based on the protocol 6LoWPAN is used as a test bench. In addition a custom energy measurement system is designed, implemented and physically built. Despite some challenges with the physical assembly, several tests was conducted. The tests does indicate that the presented store and forward method could possibly reduce the energy consumption in such systems. This indication was approximately 10% in potential energy savings over a duration of 100 Seconds for a single node. A list of tasks for further work is also presented together with possible improvements.
