dc.description.abstractIn order to validate the wave hydrodynamics calculated in REEF3D, experiments will be carried out at the wave flume. The experiments will involve studying wave propagation and wave kinematics through the measurement of free surface elevations and fluid velocity in the wave flume for an empty wave tank, wave propagation around an abutment and wave propagation over a submerged rectangular shoal. The experimental observations will be compared with the numerical results from REEF3D to validate the model. Further research will be carried out to study the influence of the different wave generation and absorption methods in the numerical wave tank. The numerical work will be extended to study the wave interaction with a porous structure including the effect of the porosity of the structure. Aims and purpose The Masters thesis work will be carried out with the following objectives: Carry out experiments to measure the wave kinematics in an empty wave tank, with an abutment and with a submerged rectangular obstacle. Validate the wave hydrodynamics in REEF3D by comparing numerical results to experimental data. Simulate wave interaction with a porous structure.
