As demand for energy keeps increasing, the need to explore and develop oil and gas resources in challenging areas (such as in offshore deep water) is growing. It would be necessary to explore relevant field development scenarios to obtain an understanding of feasibility aspects that are relevant to offshore deep water environment. In this report, the general discussion focuses on the technical merits and the economical evaluation of the subsea type of development as a continuation of a comprehensive discussion on field development scenarios that is presented in a project report (Poernomo, 2010). A field development case in the Makassar Strait, Indonesia, is chosen to be part of the discussion. As there are limited data available in relation with this case study, assumptions are made for some data to maintain a comprehensive discussion. In the last part of this report, deepwater pipeline engineering and some design aspects of riser engineering are presented with reference to some internationally known design codes. This is done as pipelines are very important building blocks of a deep water development. Key words: subsea type of development, offshore deepwater, flow assurance, pipeline engineering and riser engineeringnb_NO
