The DaisyPlayer Project
MetadataShow full item record
During the progress of this Open Source project, we have created a library for parsing and playing a Daisy Digital Talking Book. We have also developed two front-ends which utilizes our library, one with a graphical user interface and one with a console based user interface. The Daisy standard gives blind, visually impaired, and otherwise print challenged individuals access to information using multimedia representation of a print publication. To make our library useful for other developers, we have made an application programming interface. The library is meant to hide the complexity of the Daisy standards, enabling developers to create their own Daisy software, without extensive knowledge about the Daisy format. This projects software have been developed using C, C++, Qt and numerous other libraries. We have worked using an Open Source development model with elements from evolutionary development. The development process have been divided into release cycles, each spanning two weeks.
