Da vi var yngre - språk, identitet og tilhøyrsle

Abstract

I denne bacheloroppgåva undersøkjer eg romanen Da vi var yngre av Oliver Lovrenski (2023). Boka har hausta mykje god kritikk, mellom anna for korleis forfattaren har gjort gatespråket til «kunstspråk». Problemstillinga for oppgåva er Kva trekk ved multietnolekt finst i romanen Da vi var yngre, og korleis blir språket nytta som markør for identitet og tilhøyrsle? Eg har nytta sosiolingvistisk teori for å undersøkje problemstillinga, mellom anna er omgrep tilknytt språket sitt sosiale tydingsaspekt sentralt. Metodisk tilnærming til arbeidet har vore gjennom nærlesing av romanen og kritisk diskursanalyse. Etter presentasjonen av dei teoretiske og metodiske aspekta ved oppgåva har eg gjort ein analyse av språkstilen i romanen og peika på korleis den kan skape konnotasjonar til multietnolekt. Dette omgrepet handlar om språkstilar i fleirkulturelle og fleirspråklege miljø. Analysen er etterfølgt av ein diskusjon rundt korleis språkstilen tematiserer identitet og tilhøyrsle i romanen. Til slutt gir eg ei oppsummering og ser oppgåva mi i ein større samanheng, med døme til alternative vinklingar.

In this bachelor's thesis I examine the novel Da vi var yngre by Oliver Lovrenski (2023). The book has received a lot of positive reviews, especially for how the author has taken the “language of the street” and made it into a "language of art." The research question for this thesis is: What features of multiethnolect are present in the novel Da vi var yngre, and how is the language used as a marker of identity and belonging? I have used sociolinguistic theory to investigate the research question, and concepts related to the social significance of language being central. The methodological approach to the work has been through close reading of the novel and critical discourse analysis. Following the presentation of the theoretical and methodological aspects of the thesis, I will present an analysis of the language style in the novel with a closer look on how it can create connotations to multiethnolect. This concept refers to language styles in multicultural and multilingual environments. The analysis is followed by a discussion on how the language style addresses themes of identity and belonging in the novel. Finally, I provide a summary and place my thesis in a broader context, with examples of alternative perspectives.
