The Possible Evolution of Man, Speculative Fiction at the Turn of the 20th Century

Abstract

Ved å sammenligne H. G. Wells og Olaf Stapledon sine spekulative verk om evolusjon er det mulig å kunne se gjennomgående temaer i hvordan forfattere fra 1900-tallet tenkte om fremtiden og menneskets plass i den. Denne tesen ønsker å utforske hvorvidt spekulasjonene kan overbevises til å være logisk sanne samt sammenligne de to for å forstå hvordan tidsperioden forfatterene levde kan ha påvirket deres forståelse av fremtiden.

It is possible to observe similar overarching themes when comparing H. G. Wells and Olaf Stapledon's speculative evolutionary works in regard to 20th century authors' view on the future and man's place in it. This thesis explores to what degree their speculations can be considered logically true and compares the authors in order to understand how the time period they lived in can have influenced their understanding of the future.
