En metafiksjonell analyse: Den litterære og fiksjonelle forfatterens ønske om å fortelle sin historie i Ferskenen av Johan Harstad (2018)

Abstract

Ved å basere seg på det teoretiske perspektivet metafiksjon av Patricia Waugh (1984) skal bacheloroppgaven analysere hvordan den litterære forfatteren Frode Brandeggen i Ferskenen av Johan Harstad (2018) er et uttrykk for metafiksjon. Siden romanen er delt i to, en fiksjonell verden og et sett med fotnoter, vil analysen ta utgangspunkt i en valgt fotnote der Brandeggen kommer til sin rett og forhandler sin posisjon (Harstad, 2018). I analysen vil det komme frem hvordan Brandeggen i seg selv både kan veilede og forvirre leseren, og samtidig rette en kritikk mot krimlitteraturen. Basert på dette vil Brandeggen gi romanen som produkt en ny forståelse da den bryter med de vante kultur- og litteraturnormene som gjør at leseren får en større oppgave i hvorvidt de vil godta Brandeggen sin posisjon. Analysen og diskusjonen fremmer derfor en tanke om hvorvidt Brandeggen forsøker å omgå det fiksjonelle elementet i romanen.

By focusing on the theoretical perspective metafiction by Patricia Waugh (1984), this analysis will look at how the literary author Frode Brandeggen in Ferskenen by Johan Harstad (2018) can be a metafictional expression. Since the novel is separated in to two parts, a fictional world and a set of footnotes, the analysis will focus on a selected footnote that can help understand how Brandeggen is negotiating and finding his position (Harstad, 2018). The findings in the analysis will show how Brandeggen both can be a confusing and guiding voice at the same time and understand how the footnote is criticizing the crime literature. By doing this the novel will produce a new understanding of how to view crime novels because it is exceeding the cultural understanding of how to both understand and read literature. This will lay a foundation for the reader to see and accept Frode Brandeggen’s voice and position throughout the novel. The analysis and discussion will therefore look at how Brandeggen is trying to exceed the fictional status of the novel.
