This bachelor's thesis investigates the product development process of a guitar pedal with a focus on advanced digital signal processing, specifically granular synthesis, and its impact on songwriting. The thesis integrates historical and theoretical perspectives on guitar pedals, the use of microcontrollers and computers in music equipment, and techniques for digital sound processing with practical development work. The research follows a structured product development methodology that encompasses design, hardware and software development, and iterative testing. The final product, a guitar pedal utilizing granular effect processing and ambient-inspired reverb, was thoroughly tested, and used in a creative songwriting process. The results highlight the educational value of the development process, the technical challenges encountered, and the innovative potential of combining granular synthesis with traditional guitar effects to enhance musical creativity.
