In this thesis, I take a closer look at a cabinet from the collection of Sverresborg Trønderlag Folkemuseum. The cabinet is probably made by Eliasmesteren. Eliasmesteren is known for his motif choices, which often deal with the prophet Elias (hence the nickname Eliasmesteren), and his work goes under folk art. Furthermore, I write about folk art, style and era. The cabinet can be dated to the latter half of the 17th century and has an unknown iconography. In the thesis, I use iconographic analysis when looking at the cabinet's motifs. Through transcribing the text and the iconographic analysis, I come to the conclusion that the motifs on the cabinet relate to Jesus, the evangelist John, the prophet Jonas and Moses. Finally, I put the cabinet into its contemporary context and try to understand the choice of motifs in relation to 17th century Christianity and folk art.
