This bachelor thesis is about male loneliness and masculinity in the Neo-Noir genre. The films I’m using for the study are Taxi Driver, Fight Club and Blade Runner. The text will study how loneliness affects the characters and how the films build up a lonely atmosphere through cinematic effects. It will also study how masculinity is portrayed and how masculinity not only can be shown the plot, but also the stylistic choices. My method for this study is to watch all the movies multiple times and look at the narrative and the audiovisual means used in the movies, as well as the music, mise-en-scene and the color palette. I use a mixture of Youtube videos, interviews with directors and books written about the Neo-Noir genre and the movies in the analysis.
