Sannhet i romanen og lyrikken: En teoretisk undersøkelse av sannhetens mulighet i de forskjellige litterære modi

Abstract

I lys av den historiske erfaringen av første halvdel av 1900-tallet ble spørsmålet om sannhet kan finnes i kunsten i større grad viktig for litteraturteorien. Spesielt viktig ble det for Theodor W. Adorno som var interresert i forholdene mellom historie, kunst og samfunn. Ved å stille spørsmålet om hvordan en sannhet om samfunnet kan uttrykkes i romanen og lyrikken, ønsker jeg med denne oppgaven å belyse kunstens kritiske potensiale - den avgjørende rollen kunsten har i et samfunn. Gjennom undersøkelsen har jeg funnet at lidelsen av en trykkende samfunnsorganisering uttrykkes på forskjellige måter for de to litterære modi. Romanen belyser menneskets forhold til en fremmedgjort verden gjennom å innlemme refleksjonen i seg selv. Lyrikken uttrykker det fremmedgjorte menneskets forhold til seg selv i kraft av subjektets selvfordypelse. Det som må uttrykkes er det problematiske subjektet i et samfunn hvor produksjonsforholdene i økende grad bestemmer og strukturerer subjektets liv. Undersøkelsens utbytte kommer i form av å vise hvordan kunsten, da spesielt romanen og lyrikken, gjennom sine forskjellige uttrykksmåter kan belyse de ulike måtene samfunnet preger menneskets liv.

In the context of the historical experiences of the 19th centry the question of the possibility of truth in art becomes increasingly important in literary theory. This is especially the case for Theodor W. Adorno, a thinker who has particular interest for the relationships between history, art and society. By asking the question of how a truth about society can be expressed in the novel and lyric poetry, i wish to shed light on the critical potential in art - underline the importance of art in a given society. Through this study i have found that the suffering caused by a hostile societal organization can be expressed in different ways through the previously mentioned literary modes. The novels object is mans relationship to a alienated world, the realization of the novel depends on it's ability to make relfection an internal element. The lyric poem on the other hand expresses the subjects selfalienation the lyrical subject individuation. The thing that demands to be expressed is the problematic subject who's life has become increasingly alienatied by means of the societally enforced modes of production. Through these studies i hope to have underlined the importance of art, and especially how the novel and the lyrical poem in their respective expressions can reveal the different ways in which society interferes with human life.
