Kvalitetsforståelser og deres påvirkning på utviklingsarbeid i høyere yrkesfaglig utdanning: En fenomenologisk studie

Abstract

I denne masteroppgaven søker jeg gjennom intervju å identifisere hvilke kvalitetsforståelser som kommer til syne hos organisasjonens ledere, og som kan påvirke eller påvirker organisasjonens kvalitets- og utviklingsarbeid, sett i lys av NOKUTs kvalitetsområder for høyere yrkesfaglig utdanning (HYU). For å identifisere og undersøke dette, har jeg brukt følgende problemstilling: Hvilke kvalitetsforståelser kommer til syne når ledere i høyere yrkesfaglig utdanning arbeider med NOKUTs kvalitetsområder, og hvordan påvirker disse forståelsene kvalitetsarbeidet i organisasjonen? Masteroppgavens resultater er basert på en kvalitativ studie der jeg har benyttet en fenomenologisk tilnærming. De empiriske data er hentet inn fra intervjuer med fem ledere fra samme organisasjon innen høyere yrkesfaglig utdanning. Intervjuene ble gjennomført ved hjelp av en intervjuguide, veiledet av tre forskningsspørsmål som ble brukt til å adressere og avgrense problemstillingen. Gjennom analyse og koding av intervjudataene ble det identifisert tre kategorier i form av kvalitetsforståelser som ble sentrale i drøftingskapitlet. Intervjudataene i hver kategori ble deretter koblet til NOKUTs kvalitetsområder, ved å sammenligne ledernes oppfatninger og forståelser med kvalitetsstandardene fastsatt av NOKUT. Disse kategoriene er: 1) Kvalitetsforståelser 2) Kvalitetsforståelsenes påvirkning på kvalitetsarbeid og skoleutvikling 3) Relevante tiltak for å forbedre kvalitetsarbeid og skoleutvikling i lys av kvalitetsforståelser. Studien indikerer at det ikke eksisterer én entydig forståelse av kvalitet blant lederne i HYU. I stedet fremkommer et mangfold av forståelser, som reflekterer kvalitetsbegrepet som komplekst og flerdimensjonalt innen HYU. Denne erkjennelsen peker på nødvendigheten av å ta høyde for en slik kompleksitet i fremtidig forskning og praksis innen feltet.

In this Master's thesis, I aim through interviews to identify the understandings of quality that emerge among the organization's leaders, which can influence or are influencing the organization's quality and development work, seen in light of NOKUT's quality areas for higher vocational education (HVE). To identify and investigate this, I have used the following research question: What understandings of quality emerge when leaders in higher vocational education work with NOKUT's quality areas, and how do these understandings influence the quality work in the organization? The results of the Master's thesis are based on a qualitative study in which I have used a phenomenological approach. The empirical data was collected from interviews with five leaders from the same organization within higher vocational education. The interviews were conducted using an interview guide, guided by three research questions that were used to address and delimit the research question. Through analysis and coding of the interview data, three categories of quality understandings were identified that became central in the discussion chapter. The interview data in each category was then linked to NOKUT's quality areas, by comparing the leaders' perceptions and understandings with the quality standards set by NOKUT. These categories are: 1. Understandings of Quality 2. The influence of understandings of quality on quality work and school development 3. Relevant measures to improve quality work and school development in light of understandings of quality. The study indicates that there is not one unequivocal understanding of quality among the leaders in HVE. Instead, a diversity of understandings emerges, reflecting the quality concept as complex and multi-dimensional within HVE. This recognition points to the necessity of taking into account such complexity in future research and practice within the field
