En fortelling om oss: En affektiv narratologisk analyse av Olaug Nilssens Tung tids tale (2018)

Abstract

Denne bacheloroppgaven utforsker følelsenes rolle i samtidslitteraturen, og betydningen det kan ha for samfunnet. Hovedvekten i oppgaven ligger på hvordan litteraturens emosjonelle virkning på leseren kan stimulere til politisk endring. Det skjønnlitterære utgangspunktet for oppgaven er Olaug Nilssens roman Tung tids tale fra 2018. Ved å tematisere ulike tendenser ved den norske velferdsstaten gjennom en rørende historie om pårørenderollen, egner romanen seg godt til å belyse oppgavens spørsmål. Romanen analyseres ved hjelp av begreper fra den tradisjonelle narratologien og den nyere affektive narratologien. En narratologisk tekstorientering fokuserer på teksten i seg selv, og kan på denne måten identifisere mønstre i teksten som kan bidra til å forklare litteraturens ekstralitterære effekt. I denne oppgaven tillegges tekstens følelsesmessige mønstre stor vekt. Hvordan og hvorfor er Tung tids tale en følelsesladet roman, og hvordan kan dens emosjonelle aspekt inneha et politisk potensial?

This Bachelor’s thesis explores the role of emotions in contemporary literature and its potential significance for society. The main emphasis of the thesis lies in how literature’s emotional impact on the reader can stimulate political change. The fictional basis for this study is Olaug Nilssen’s novel Tung tids tale from 2018. By addressing various tendencies within the Norwegian welfare state through a moving story about the role of caregivers, the novel is well-suited to illuminate the thesis’ inquiries. The novel is analyzed using concepts from both traditional narratology and the more recent affective narratology. A text-oriented approach within narratology focuses on the text itself and can thereby identify patterns in the text that help explain the literature’s extraliterary effects. In this thesis, significant importance is attributed to the emotional patterns within the text. How and why is Tung tids tale an emotionally charged novel, and how can its emotional aspects possess political potential?
