In this report there are six chapters according to the standard natural science report template. First, the global backdrop of the subject is introduced, before a concretization of the issue in this report. This issue is:What can a balance of plant surrounding a proton-exchange membrane electrolyser consist of, and how could this be operated? This is followed by a theory that demonstrates energy carriers in general and more specifically PEM electrolysis. Theory associated with Modelica is presented, which is the program in which the digital twin has been produced. The method presents which equations have been considered relevant for producing the digital model, additionally to how the BoP has been built in Modelica. Results associated with pipes, valves, and the placement of components surrounding the BoP are presented before data associated with specific components of the plant is displayed. The components are respectively:o Mixero Pumpo Heat exchangero Electrical moduleAll of these are concluded that a BoP surrounding a PEM electrolyser should consist of. In addition, there is data associated with the system when it is operated under current densities of three and four amperes per square centimetre, respectively. The results are predominantly favouriting higher current density, as no data is presented for energy loss in the system. The discussion first explains the data associated with the system, then the components and the modified system. Furthermore, there is a more general discussion that addresses economics, land usage and politics, as well as validation of the results. The weaknesses of the model are identified here, in relation with the previously presented theory. This is a central contribution towards the conclusion, stating that it is wiser to operate the electrolysis at three amperes per square centimetre.
