Å glede seg i sorgen

Abstract

Denne masteroppgaven er en litterær analyse av Maja Lunde og Lisa Aisatos illustrerte roman Snøsøsteren (2018). Oppgaven skrives i sammenheng med NTNUs pårørendeprosjekt, som ledes av min veileder Silje Haugen Warberg. Formålet med den litterære analysen er å undersøke hvordan gleden kommer til uttrykk hos det pårørende barnet, og hvilken rolle gleden får i pårøreendeerfaringen. I Snøsøsteren følger vi elleve år gamle Julian, som har mistet storesøsteren sin. For å undersøke gledens plass i Julians sorgprosess, tar jeg utgangspunkt i en affektteoretisk tilnærming, med særlig vekt på affektive rom og familiens betydning for glede og lykke. Metodisk benytter jeg meg av analytiske verktøy for grafisk litteratur, for å undersøke hva kroppslige erfaringer og bruk av farger i illustrasjonene kan si oss om pårørendeerfaringen. Analysen undersøker hvordan Julian og hans familie gjør plass til gleden i sorgprosessen. Mens familien i utgangspunktet er svært preget av sorgen, og ikke snakker om det som har skjedd, får Julian foreldrene sine til å huske hvor glad storesøsteren hans var mens hun var i live. Analysens konklusjon blir at gleden kan få plass i sorgen ved at vi snakker om og husker på den som har gått bort.

This master’s thesis is a literary analysis of Maja Lunde and Lisa Aisato’s illustrated novel The Snow Sister (2018). The thesis is written in connection with NTNU’s next-of-kin project, which is led by my supervisor Silje Haugen Warberg. The purpose of the literary analysis is to examine how joy is expressed in a child who is someone’s next of kin and what role joy plays in the experience of loss. In The Snow Sister, we follow eleven-year-old Julian, who has lost his older sister. To investigate the place of joy in Julian’s process of grief, I employ an affect theory approach, with a particular focus on affective spaces and the significance of family in relation to joy and happiness. Methodologically, I utilize analytical tools for graphic literature to examine what bodily experiences and the use of colors in the illustrations can tell us about the experience of being a next of kin. The analysis explores how Julian and his family make room for joy in the grieving process. While the family is initially heavily affected by grief and does not talk about what has happened, Julian reminds his parents of how happy his sister was while she was still alive. The conclusion of the analysis is that joy can find a place within grief trough discussing and remembering the departed loved one.
