«Alle har jo lyst til å ødelegge litt iblant» En studie av en litterær samtale med bruk av bildeboken Når alle sover med en elevgruppe fra 4. trinn.

Abstract

Skjønnlitteraturen bidrar til å gi leseren innsikt i andre personers livssituasjoner, følelser og tanker. I forlengelse av dette har jeg i min masteroppgave utforsket bildeboken Når alle sover, skrevet av Nicolai Houm og illustrert av Rune Markhus, og dens potensiale for å fremme empati. Empati blir i prosjektet forstått som evnen til å forestille seg andres perspektiver og situasjoner, og handle på grunnlag av denne forståelsen (Nussbaum, 2001 s. 327-335) Problemstillingen lyder dermed som følger: «Hvordan kan empati fremmes gjennom en litterær samtale ved bruk av bildeboken Når alle sover?». For å svare på problemstillingen lurer jeg videre på hvordan innlevelse kan komme til uttrykk hos elevene i den litterære samtalen? Og i hvor stor grad evner elevene å knytte fortellingen til egne liv? I den litterære samtalen deltok fire elever fra 4. trinn. Under samtalen ble det lagt inn tre lesestopp, med forhåndsplanlagte spørsmål. Målet var at elevenes forestillinger og tanker om karakterene i Når alle sover skulle komme til uttrykk gjennom deres svar på spørsmålene stilt under lesestoppene. Det konkluderes med at en enkelt litterær samtale ikke vil gjøre elevene til empatiske individ, men kan bidra i utviklingen av deres empatiske evner. Ved å fokusere på elevenes innlevelse og evne til å knytte fortellingen til eget liv, kan utviklingen av empati fremmes i en litterær samtale med bildeboken Når alle sover.

Fiction contributes to the reader’s insight into other people’s life situations, feelings, and thoughts. I will, therefore, in my master’s thesis explore the picture book Når alle sover, written by Nicolai Houm and illustrated by Rune Markhus, and its potential for developing empathy in its readers. In this project, empathy is understood as the ability to imagine other people's perspectives and situations, and act on the basis of this understanding (Nussbaum, 2001 s. 327-335) This thesis’ research question is: “How can empathy be promoted through a literary conversation using the picture book Når alle sover?”. In order to answer this question, I will examine the pupils’ ability to express empathy in the literary conversation, and to what extent the pupils are able to relate the story to their own lives. The pupils participating in the literary conversation were all in their fourth year of school. During the conversation there were arranged three reading stops in where pre-planned questions were asked. The goal was that through their answers to these questions, the pupils would express their ideas and thoughts about the characters in Når alle sover. The conclusion of this study is that a single literary conversation will not make the pupils into empathic individuals, but it can contribute to the development of their empathic abilities. In other words, the development of empathy can be promoted in a literary conversation using the picture book Når alle sover, by focusing on the pupils’ ability to empathise as well as relate the story to their own lives.
