Tung Tids Tale. Et supplement til legevitenskapens redskaper.

Abstract

Denne bacheloroppgaven undersøker hvordan Olaug Nilssens roman Tung Tids Tale kan gi innsikt i sykdomserfaringer knyttet opp mot autisme. Bakgrunnen for undersøkelsen er for å se om boken kan brukes for å supplere legevitenskapens redskaper gjennom en fortelling om personlige erfaringer. Bokens utgivelse skapte debatt omkring hvorvidt det er greit å utgi en bok om et autistisk, ikke-verbalt barn, som ikke kan ta til motmæle. Denne debatten er grunnen bak hvorfor jeg velger å fokusere på de ulike utfordringene Nilssen trekker frem i boken. Oppgaven velger å belyse på det som er i fokus i boken, slik som diagnosesetting og uvitenhet og ignoranse, samt hvordan skrivestilen til Nilssen påvirker fortellingen og leserens opplevelse. For å undersøke dette gjennomføres det en analyse av verket, med fokus på skrivestilen og de to temaene som går igjen i teksten. Det blir også drøftet omkring hva som burde komme først; den etiske problemstillingen eller de utfordrende temaene belyses i romanen.

This bachelor thesis examines how Olaug Nilssen´s novel “Tung Tids Tale” can give insight to illness experiences connected to autism. The reason for this examination is to see if the novel can be used as a supply tool for the medical science though a story about personal experiences. The book´s debut created debates regarding whether it is okay to publish a book about an autistic, non-verbal child, that has no way of speaking up. This debate is the reason behind why I chose to focus on the different challenges Nilssen brings forth in her book. This thesis chooses to cast light on what is in focus in the book, like the problems surrounding setting a diagnosis and the ignorance, as well as Nilssen´s stylistic choices that affects the story and the readers experience. To examine this, I will do an analysis of the book, focusing on the writing style and the themes that reoccur and are in focus. There will also be a discussion surrounding what should come first; the ethical issue or the challenging themes that are emphasized in the novel.
