dc.description.abstract | The theme of this bachelor’s thesis is realistic experiences of combat in war films from 2010-2020. In this thesis, I will examine a selection of war films from this period to find common techniques in cinematography that often lead the viewer to describe the experience of watching battle scenes as a way of “being in the scene”. This happens though the use of POV-editing (point-of-view), which contributes to this subjective experience of “being in the battle”. I will use the terms “reported realism” (2014) and “controlled spontaneity” (2013) by Stuart Bender to analyze how the spectator infers that they are seeing combat in a way that is an authentic representation of a chaotic and unpredictable battlefield.
