This paper considers a simplified microgrid derived from the CIGRE benchmark, and investigates the impact of harmonic loading of the distribution transformer on its reliability. As a means to alleviate the considerable impact of harmonics on the distribution transformer, a harmonic compensation scheme using the distributed generator inverter has been tested and found to be an efficient way of mitigating the reduced reliability of the transformer caused by harmonic loads.en_US
