strategier hadde begrenset utbredelse i Washington Mills.
nøkkel indikatorer for å sikre forbedrings potensial i fabrikken.
for å sikre bærekraftig produksjon.
dc.description.abstract | Since sustainability has become a more critical aspect of today’s society, was Washington Mills interested in a
thesis that could give an audit of their factory. Therefore, a link between sustainable production and maintenance
activity optimization became established, giving a foundation for the thesis, focusing on maintenance in the
operational context. During this audit, an elaboration of the company organization, maintenance reporting and
maintenance execution became introduced. To answer these aspects were interviews of seven employees at
Washington Mills and conducting non-participatory observation, which gave the main result; the application
layer has a high potential for improvement by using data collected better.
Other results identified that failure interval needs to be optimized since equipment-centered strategies seem
limited at Washington Mills. Regarding the hidden factory identification, Washington Mills seems to have the
potential to deliver a better indication by using more broad indicators. The execution of maintenance activities
at Washington Mills was stated as having; high use of outsourced personnel and therefore needed to reduce
the number of maintenance actions conducted, which more sensitive inspection techniques seemed to reduce.
However, it seems that more sensitive inspection techniques deliver a limited positive impact toward sustainable
production.
The conclusion consisted of improvement proposals for Washington Mills. It seems that more automated
connection between management systems, utilizing new/better degradation indicators for maintenance interval
optimization, defining a better equipment-centered strategy and implementing broader key performance indicators
to indicate improvement potential better. The sustainability strategy at Washington Mills seems to be good.
However, change towards taking into consideration carbon dioxide equivalents instead of only carbon dioxide
and reducing water contamination instead of consumption seems to be better indicators for securing sustainable
production. Suggestions for further research were stated to be grouping equipment for Washington Mills and
investigating further connections between reliability centered maintenance and total productivity maintenance
with industry 4.0 in the literature.
