Mens andre fremgangsmåter for å
spennende interaktivt verktøy for å inkludere tradisjonelt underrepresenterte
innbyggere i norsk byplanlegging.
engagjere unge innbyggere i offentlige planleggingsprosesser.
dc.description.abstract | Current participation practices in Norwegian urban planning largely fail to engage young segments of the population resulting in the loss of important perspectives. With the proliferation of personal mobile devices, new opportunities
for including these digitally literate communities are afforded. While other approaches to enhancing citizen participation focus on improving existing synchronous activities like facilitated workshops, they do not fundamentally address the exclusion of certain groups and address the continual and meaningful
engagement of citizens throughout the plan life cycle. This thesis aims to identify the potential of location-based augmented reality as an exciting interaction
modality to activate traditionally underrepresented citizens in the context of
Norwegian urban development. A location-based augmented reality mobile application was developed using principles of user-centered design to ultimately
deliver immersive visualizations of project plans and their changes to the environment. At their own leisure, citizens can observe and interact with proposals
in situated augmented reality, and give feedback to urban planners by providing textual feedback and captured images from the application. The final
evaluation is done through interviews with both citizens and urban planners
in an attempt to identify important indicators of actual system use. Findings
suggest that location-based augmented reality is a promising technology for
engaging young citizens in public planning processes.
