Over several decades, the increase in car traffic has declined urban quality and has led to many urban challenges on an arterial street of Elgeseter. However, the concept of making attractive and livable streets has been mainly focused on downtown streets and lacks strategies for making livable arterial streets. The thesis aims to formulate strategies to revitalize Elgeseter street and make it a livable space. To accomplish this goal, the research first analyses the cases from the two cities in the Netherlands to learn how these cities have made strategies to revitalize the urban street. Second, it analyses the case area to understand its challenges and opportunities. Third, it involves stakeholders' opinions in the process and recommends their roles and responsibilities while implementing the project. The thesis outlines different strategies for revitalizing Elgeseter street. The study identifies encouraging multimodal transport, providing safe and comfortable spaces, using vacant spaces, renovating plinths, and adding mixed functions, and promoting inclusive and dense neighborhoods as key strategies for revitalization. In addition, the study highlights Flykeskommune, Trondheim Kommune (public sectors), real estate developers (private sector), NTNU, business entrepreneurs, and civil society organizations such as Pådriv as critical stakeholders who may be responsible for implementing these strategies and revitalize Elgeseter street.
