Hvordan kan designmetoder styrke brukerstemmen for universell utforming

Abstract

Masteroppgaven har undersøkt universell utforming (UU) i forbindelse med NTNU Campussamling sitt arbeid med å samle et stor-campus på NTNU Gløshaugen. Oppgaven har belyst spørsmålet «hvordan kan designmetoder styrke brukerstemmen for UU» gjennom praktisk anvendelse av designmetoder.

Det har blitt redegjort for planlegging, gjennomføring og evaluering av en designprosess. Viktige valg og avgrensninger har blitt redegjort for.

Oppgaven har gjennom rekruttering og intervju av en lite kjent brukergruppe, bidratt med kvalitativ innsikt i gruppens brukerstemme; behov, meninger og følelser. Masteroppgaven har argumentert for hvordan UU bør forstås som en opplevelse, fremfor en teknisk ettertanke.

Ved å samle inn data med designmetoder har oppgaven demonstrert hvordan man kan oppnå en bred, kvalitativ datainnsamling. Videre, ved å analysere data med designmetoder, har oppgaven demonstrert hvordan metodene kan gi en dyp problemforståelse. Til slutt, ved å presentere relevant data med designmetoder, har oppgaven illustrert hvordan designmetoder kan visualisere og kommunisere viktig innsikt. Dette har resultert i en bedre forståelse for hvordan designmetodikk kan styrke brukerstemmen for UU. Masteroppgaven har bidratt med ny innsikt til et fagmiljø som tradisjonelt sett ikke er kjent med designmetodikk.

Oppgaven har presentert en leveranse som anses nyttig for NTNU Campusprosjektet og deres samarbeidspartnere, samt andre aktører som har interesse for universell utforming.

The master's thesis has examined universal design (UD) in conjunction with the merge of campuses at NTNU Gløshaugen. The merge is executed by NTNU Campussamling. The examines "how may design methods empower UD grounded in user needs" through practical application of design methods.

The planning, implementation and evaluation of a design process have been documented. Important choices and limitations have been accounted for.

Through the recruitment and interview of a user group little of is known, the thesis contributes with qualitative insight into the group's user voice; needs, opinions and feelings. The master's thesis has argued how UD should be understood as an experience, rather than a technical afterthought.

By collecting data with design methods, the thesis has demonstrated how to achieve a broad, qualitative data collection. Furthermore, by analyzing data with design methods, the thesis has demonstrated how design methods can provide a thorough understanding of the problem. Finally, by presenting relevant data with design methods, the thesis has illustrated how design methods can be visualized to communicate important insights.

This results in a better understanding of how the design method can empower UD grounded in user needs. The master's thesis has contributed new insights to a professional environment that is traditionally unfamiliar with design methodology.

The thesis is considered useful for NTNU Campussamling and their partners, as well as other players who are interested in universal design.
