Verdier i barnelitteraturen - En analyse av hvordan familie, sannhet og vennskap formidles i barneboken Olivias liv: Annenhver uke

Abstract

Denne masteroppgaven undersøker hvordan verdier formidles i barnelitteraturen, med utgangspunkt i barneromanen Olivias liv: Annenhver uke. Fremstillingen av verdiene familie, sannhet og vennskap, som også er blant bokas tema, utgjør analysens utgangspunkt, men jeg finner også andre verdier i tilknytning til disse verdiene. Olivias liv: Annenhver uke er en problemorientert bok, men samtidig ikke en bok som tar opp store problemer som død, flyktning- eller miljøkrise, mobbing eller (fersk) skilsmisse. I teksten inviteres leseren inn til å reflektere over de hverdagslige aspektene og utfordringene. Oppgavens problemstilling blir med det:

Hvordan formidles verdiene familie, sannhet og vennskap i Olivias liv: Annenhver uke?

For å kunne svare på oppgavens problemstilling er nærlesing valgt metode, samtidig som problemstillingen også gjør tilnærming til analysematerialet ved normanalyse relevant for å kunne si noe om det verdi- og tankesett som etableres i teksten. Jeg støtter meg på narratologi i tråd med Jakob Lothe og Rolf Gaaslands terminologi, samt teoretiske perspektiv på barnelitteraturen med utgangspunkt i barnelitteraturforskerne Perry Nodelman og Maria Nikolajeva teori. Hvordan verdiene formidles i boka handler om å undersøke det fortellertekniske, men har også didaktiske implikasjoner ved at jeg undersøker potensialet for hvordan verdier kan formidles til bokas leser. Jeg finner at verdiene formidles ulikt, men at det som er omtalt som barnelitteraturens grunnstruktur preger verdiformidlinga, spesielt hva gjelder protagonistens utvikling som bekrefter at de voksne fremstår som norm og barnet som avvik. Karakterens utvikling formidler i så måte verdier, men samtidig finner jeg i normanalysen at tekstens verdi- og tankesett ikke fremtrer som noe etablert, men i større grad lar leseren selv bli aktiv medskaper i tekstens norm ved realiseringen av tekstens tomme rom. For å belyse dette tar jeg utgangspunkt i Wolfgang Isers teoretiske perspektiver. Jeg konkluderer med at jeg ikke kan slå fast at den skjønnlitterære barneboka faktisk formidler verdier under lesing, men mener at jeg ved analysen finner et potensiale for skjønnlitteraturen som kilde til opplevelser som byr på «[…]mulighet til å reflektere over sentrale verdier og moralske spørsmål […]» og derfor kan være viktig for menneskets identitets- og meningsdanning (Kunnskapsdepartementet, 2019).

This master's thesis examines how values are conveyed in children's literature, based on the children's novel Olivias liv: Annenhver uke. The presentation of the values family, truth and friendship, which is also among the book's themes, constitutes the starting point of the analysis, but I also find other values in connection with these values. Olivias liv: Annenhver uke is a problem oriented book, but at the same time not a book that addresses major issues such as death, refugee or environmental crisis, bullying or (recent) divorce. In the text, the reader is invited to reflect on the everyday aspects and challenges. The problem of the thesis is as follows:

How are the values of family, truth and friendship conveyed in Olivias liv: Annenhver uke?

In order to be able to answer the thesis problem, close reading is the chosen method, at the same time as the problem also makes the approach to the analysis material in norm analysis relevant to be able to say something about the value and mindset that is established in the text. I rely on narratology in line with Jakob Lothe and Rolf Gaasland's terminology, as well as theoretical perspectives on children's literature based on the children's literature researchers Perry Nodelman and Maria Nikolajeva's theory. How the values are conveyed in the book is about examining the narrative technique, but also has didactic implications in that I examine the potential for how values can be conveyed to the book's reader. I find that the values are communicated differently, but that what is referred to as the basic structure of children's literature characterizes the communication of values, especially with regard to the protagonist's development which confirms that the adults appear as the norm and the child as the deviation. The development of the character conveys values in this way, but at the same time I find in the norm analysis that the text's value and way of thinking does not appear as something established, but to a greater extent allows the reader to become an active co-creator in the text's norm. To illustrate this, I take as my starting point Wolfgang Iser's theoretical perspectives. I conclude that I can not state that the children's fiction book actually conveys values during reading, but I believe that in the analysis I find a potential for fiction as a source of experiences that offers «[...] the opportunity to reflect on key values and moral issues [...] »and therefore can be important for human identity and opinion formation (Kunnskapsdepartementet, 2019).
