| dc.description.abstract | Denne avhandlingen er en studie av bidragene til Marxism Today i perioden 1979-1983. For å kunne utvide forståelsen vår av den intellektuelle historien til Marxism Today og politikken til både ‘Labour Party’ og Thatcher-regjeringer, utforsker denne avhandlingen systematisk innholdet i magasinet som en helhet. Mer spesifikt tar avhandlingen for seg tre sentrale diskusjonsemner i Marxism Today i dette avgjørende øyeblikket for venstresiden i Storbritannia. Først, årsakene for Labour sitt tap i parlamentsvalget i 1979. Deretter, venstresidens reaksjoner på politikken til Thatcher-regjeringen. Til slutt, debattene om hvilken alternativ politikk venstresiden kan tilby i fremtiden for å kunne bekjempe Thatchers konservatisme. | |
| dc.description.abstract | This thesis is a study of the contributions to Marxism Today in the period 1979-1983. In order to add to our understanding of the intellectual history of Marxism Today and the politics of both the Labour Party and the Thatcher governments, this thesis systematically researches the contents of the magazine as a whole. More specifically, this thesis primarily takes on three major discussion points in Marxism Today at this pivotal moment for the left in Britain. First, the reasons for Labour’s defeat at the 1979 General Election. Second, the left’s reactions to the politics of the Thatcher government. Finally, debates about what alternative politics the left could offer in the future so that it could defeat Thatcherite conservatism. | |
