BakgrunnBarn som pårørende til psykisk syke foreldre har større risiko for selv å utvikle psykisk sykdom. Teksten vil belyse hvordan sykepleier kan bidra til å forebygge barns økte risiko for psykisk sykdom, med spesielt fokus på å tilrettelegge informasjon og kunnskap om foreldrenes psykiske lidelse. Hvilke konsekvenser denne informasjonen kan medføre for barnet vil også bli drøftet.
HensiktHensikten med denne litteraturoppgaven er å finne ut hvordan sykepleier kan gi trygg og tilrettelagt informasjon til barn som pårørende hvor en av foreldrene lider av psykisk sykdom.
MetodeLitteraturoppgaven er en vitenskapelig tekst som er basert på syv kvalitative artikler. Artiklene er hentet fra databasen Cinahl og PubMed, samt håndsøk fra Sykepleien.no og Google Scholar.
ResultatDet å leve med psykisk syke foreldre kan fremkalle mange destruktive følelser hos barna, slik som isolasjon, forvirring og frykt. De opplevde mye bekymring, skyld og ansvar overfor foreldrene og søsknene. Konkret, ærlig og tilrettelagt informasjon og støtte fra helsepersonell er vesentlige faktorer for å forebygge de destruktive følelsene og risikoen for å utvikle psykisk lidelse hos barna.
KonklusjonGod informasjon om foreldrenes psykiske lidelse ga barna bedre forståelse og mestring rundt situasjonen og gjorde dem bedre rustet til å møte hverdagen. Barn trenger alderstilpasset informasjon om foreldrenes sykdom, hvor de får høre at skyld og ansvar ikke tilhører dem.

BackgroundChildren of parents who suffer from mental illness, have a greater risk at developing mental disorders. This text will illuminate how nurses can prevent children of getting mental disorders with special focus on adjusted information and knowledge about parents’ mental illness. The consequences of this information and how it may affect the children will also be discussed.
AimThe aim of this thesis is to find out how nurses can provide safety and adjusted information to children where one of the parents suffer from mental disorders.
MethodThis literature thesis is a scientific text which are based on seven qualitative articles. These articles are collected from the database Cinahl and PubMed, as well as handpicked articles from Sykepleien.no and Google Scholar.
ResultsChildren living with parental mental illness can experience several destructive emotions such as the feeling of isolation, confusion and fear. They experienced much worry, guilt and responsibility towards their parents and siblings. Direct, honest and adjusted information and support from healthcare professionals are important factors to prevent these destructive emotions and the risk of developing mental illnesses in the children.
ConclusionProper information about parental mental illness gave the children a better understanding and coping around the situation and made them better equipped to face everyday life. Children need age-adjusted information about parental illness, and to hear that they are not guilty nor responsible for their parent´s disorders.
