"Hämning och störning och retardation, psykotisk, nevrotisk och institution": Barnet som pårørende og fremstillingen av et søsken med funksjonsvariasjon i Gunilla Bergströms Stora boken om Bill & Bolla ... han så klok och hon en stolla

Abstract

Denne bacheloroppgaven undersøker fremstillingen av barnet som pårørende og av et søsken med funksjonsvariasjon, med utgangspunkt i bildeboken Stora boken om Bill & Bolla ... han så klok och hon en stolla, som ble skrevet av Gunilla Bergström i 1978. Undersøkelsen er todelt: Først undersøker jeg hvordan søskenet med funksjonsvariasjon fremstilles i bildeboken, og jeg diskuterer hva som potensielt er problematisk med denne fremstillingen. Deretter undersøker jeg hva det har å si at det er storebrorens perspektiv vi har, og at det er barn som ham bildeboken er henvendt til. For å svare på denne todelte problemstillingen gjør jeg en analyse av de verbalspråklige og de visuelle elementene, og jeg undersøker og diskuterer hvordan de er med på å underbygge de aspektene som kan fremstå som provoserende for leseren, samt de som har med det barnlige pårørendeperspektivet å gjøre. Undersøkelsen viser bokens komplekse, men nyanserte fremstilling både av barnet som pårørende og av søskenet med funksjonsvariasjon. Undersøkelsen viser også at bildeboken kan påvirke leserne positivt, slik at den kan brukes som et didaktisk hjelpemiddel i skolen. Likevel gjør de provoserende aspektene ved bildeboken at den ikke kan tas direkte inn i undervisning uten at det i forkant er planlagt hvordan den skal leses og snakkes om.

This bachelor thesis examines the portrayal of the child as next of kin and of a sibling with functional variation, in the picturebook Stora boken om Bill & Bolla … han så klok och hon en stolla, written by Gunilla Bergström in 1978. The survey is in two parts: First I examine how the sibling with functional variation is portrayed in the picturebook, and I discuss what is potentially problematic with this portrayal. Then I examine what it has to say that it is the big brother's perspective we have, and that it is children like him the picturebook is addressed to. To answer this two-part issue, an analysis is made of the verbal language and the visual elements, and I examine and discuss how they help to substantiate the aspects that may appear provocative to the reader, as well as those that concern the perspective of the child as next of kin. The study shows the book’s complex but nuanced presentation of the child as a next of kin and of the sibling with functional variation. The survey also shows that the picturebook can influence readers positively, and that it can be used as a didactic means in school. Nevertheless, the provocative aspects of the picturebook mean that it cannot be taken directly into teaching without prior planning of how it should be read and talked about.
